APM Urges Tinubu to Withdraw from 2027 Election

The Allied Peoples Movement (APM) has called on President Bola Tinubu to withdraw from the 2027 presidential election due to his legal team's recent actions in a U.S. federal court. On August 28, 2026, Tinubu's lawyers appeared before the U.S.

District Court for the District of Columbia, seeking to block a summary judgment that would compel the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) to release documents allegedly containing incriminating information about his involvement in narcotics. The APM characterized this legal maneuver as indicative of guilt, arguing that if Tinubu's team were confident in his innocence, they would welcome the release of the documents to clear his name.

The party referenced Section 137(1)(d) of the 1999 Constitution, which prohibits individuals convicted of offenses involving dishonesty or fraud from contesting for the presidency. The APM expressed confidence that the U.S. court would make a decision based on the evidence and urged Tinubu to spare the nation from the embarrassment of the situation by stepping down from the race.
