APC Leaders Oppose Wike's Rainbow Coalition for 2027

Influential leaders within the All Progressives Congress (APC) are rejecting the Rainbow Coalition proposed by Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, ahead of the 2027 general elections. Wike's coalition seeks to unite politicians from various parties to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's re-election while allowing members to retain their party affiliations.

APC leaders express concerns that this arrangement could confuse voters, especially in states where coalition-backed candidates will compete against APC candidates. Wike has defended the coalition, asserting that supporting Tinubu does not necessitate joining the APC.

He emphasized that the coalition is centered around Tinubu's presidential ambition and aims to create a larger national support base. Tensions are particularly pronounced in Rivers, Kwara, Gombe, and Cross River states, where coalition candidates are set to challenge APC nominees.

Wike has publicly addressed his disagreements with APC governors, including Hope Uzodimma and AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, regarding their opposition to his coalition.
