Wike Defends Rainbow Coalition's Impact on Tinubu's Votes

Nyesom Wike, the Federal Capital Territory Minister, responded to concerns from some governors regarding the impact of his Rainbow Coalition on President Bola Tinubu's votes in the upcoming 2027 elections. During a grand reception in Rivers State, Wike stated that these governors lack the capacity to deliver votes, asserting that the coalition would not diminish Tinubu's support but rather enhance it.

He questioned why these governors failed to secure significant votes for Tinubu in the 2023 elections when the coalition was not in existence, noting that Tinubu received less than 5% of the votes in some of their states. Wike reiterated that the Rainbow Coalition is committed to supporting Tinubu, emphasizing that Rivers State's political landscape is distinct.

Concerns had been raised by governors from the All Progressives Congress (APC) about the coalition potentially splitting votes and undermining APC candidates in the National Assembly elections.
