Supreme Court to Hear ADC, PDP Leadership Disputes

On Tuesday, the Supreme Court of Nigeria will hear appeals concerning leadership disputes within the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). The appeals arise from a crisis involving the ADC's national chairman, David Mark, and a faction led by Tanimu Turaki of the PDP. The Turaki-led faction is contesting a Court of Appeal decision that nullified the ADC's national convention leadership structure. They argue that the judgment should remain in place to stabilize the party. David Mark seeks an order to stay the execution of the March 12 Court of Appeal judgment while the appeal is pending. The Supreme Court has scheduled the hearing for April 14, with a notice issued to the litigants. Additionally, there are motions filed to compel the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to recognize the current leadership of the ADC. The case reflects ongoing tensions within Nigerian political parties regarding leadership legitimacy and electoral processes.
