Niger State Officials Resign to Pursue 2027 Elections

On March 23, 2023, two commissioners and one other political appointee resigned from the administration of Niger State Governor Moham Umaru Bago. The resignations were made to pursue political interests ahead of the 2027 elections, following a deadline given to political appointees to resign.

The commissioners include Hajia Ladidi Rakiya Bawa, who served in the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, and Alhaji Haruna Arafat Abubakar Magaji, who was in the Ministry of Commerce, Industry, and Cooperatives. Additionally, Ibrahim Dada Bosso, who was the chairman of the Niger Tornadoes Football Club management committee, also resigned.

The trio is reportedly seeking to contest for different political positions under the banner of the All Progressives Congress (APC). Bosso aims to secure a single House of Representatives seat for Bosso/Paikoro, currently held by APC member Alhaji Yussuf Kure, while Arafat Abubakar Magaji intends to unseat a member of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) representing Suleja/Gurara.
