Atiku Abubakar Promises Fuel Subsidy Restoration for 2027

Atiku Abubakar, the Presidential Candidate of the African Democratic Congress (APC), declared in a video shared on his social media platform that he is "competing with thieves" who he claims have stolen the election and the economy. He asserted his commitment to restoring fuel subsidy if elected president in 2027, countering comments from his spokesperson, Paul Ibe, who suggested a potential reversal of this policy.

Atiku stated, “I want to repeat categorically that what I said I will return subsidy, I will,” emphasizing that Nigeria has the resources to support its citizens' welfare. He criticized the removal of the subsidy for exacerbating poverty among Nigerians and reiterated that the government's fundamental responsibility is to ensure the welfare of its citizens.

President Bola Tinubu dismissed Atiku's proposal, labeling it as evidence of “serious ignorance on governance and economy.” Atiku maintained that his stance is rooted in protecting Nigerians from economic hardship.
