Ortom Shifts Support from Obi to Tinubu for 2027 Elections

Samuel Ortom, the former Governor of Benue State, has publicly declared his intention to support President Bola Tinubu in the upcoming 2027 general elections, moving away from his previous support for Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC). In an interview on Arise Television’s ‘Morning Show’ on Tuesday, Ortom explained that his decision to back Tinubu is a strategic political choice.

He noted that he made this declaration following the appointment of his former G5 colleague, Nyesom Wike, as Minister of the Federal Capital Territory. Ortom expressed no regrets about his shift in allegiance, stating, “If you can’t beat them, you join them,” reflecting his acceptance of Tinubu's presidency after the 2023 elections, where he initially supported Obi.

Ortom emphasized his commitment to supporting Tinubu in 2027, marking a significant change in his political stance.
