Wike Declares Kingsley Chinda Next Rivers Governor for 2027

On Tuesday, Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory and former governor of Rivers State, announced that Honourable Kingsley Chinda, the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, will be the next governor of Rivers State in 2027. This declaration was made during a reception held in Wike's honor by Ogbakor Ikwerre, a socio-cultural organization of the Ikwerre ethnic nationality, at Obiri-Ehie.

Wike introduced Chinda as the “former Minority Leader in the House of Representatives and, by the grace of God, the next governor of Rivers State.” If elected, Chinda will succeed Governor Siminalayi Fubara, who has opted not to run for a second term. Chinda is recognized as a long-time political ally of Wike and is viewed as Wike's preferred successor amid the political shifts occurring in the state.
