INEC Promises Secure Voting for 2027 Elections

On Wednesday, INEC Chairman Professor Joash Ojo Amupitan assured that every valid vote cast in the 2027 general elections will be protected. During a courtesy visit from Mallam Lanr Issa Onilu, Director General of the National Orientation Agency (NOA), Amupitan emphasized the need for intensified voter education to combat voter apathy and misinformation, which he identified as significant threats to credible elections.

He noted that recent electoral processes have shown improvements, including the deployment of the bimodal voter accreditation system (BVA) and the INEC result viewing portal (IREV). However, challenges such as low voter turnout and confusion among voters persist.

Amupitan stressed that technological advancements alone cannot guarantee credible elections without informed and active participation from citizens. He called for a stronger partnership with the NOA to promote grassroots voter education campaigns and ensure that citizens understand the electoral process.

Onilu acknowledged the concern over low voter turnout and expressed the agency's commitment to enhancing civic engagement and public understanding of the electoral process.
