2.3 Million Voters Set for Osun Governorship Election

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, disclosed that 2.3 million registered voters will elect the next Osun governor.

This announcement was made during a courtesy visit to the Ooni of Ife, Oba Enitan Ogunwusi, as part of a five-day readiness assessment tour of the state. The voters are distributed across 3,763 polling units in 332 registration areas within the 30 local government areas of Osun State.

Amupitan described the election as a critical test for INEC ahead of the 2027 general elections, asserting that arrangements are in place to ensure a credible, peaceful, and transparent process. He confirmed the deployment of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) for voter accreditation and urged traditional rulers to support peaceful conduct during the election.

Amupitan also warned against violence, vote-buying, and misinformation, emphasizing that no life should be lost over an election. The Ooni of Ife commended Amupitan's engagement with traditional rulers while expressing concerns about rising political tensions in the state.
