1.9 Million Voters Prepare for Osun Governorship Election

The Osun State governorship election is poised to engage 1,906,390 voters, representing 81.50% of the 2,339,233 registered voters, as reported by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). This election, the last off-cycle governorship election before the 2027 general elections, is significant for Nigeria's electoral landscape.

A total of 432,843 Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) remain uncollected, secured by the Central Bank of Nigeria. The election will take place across 30 Local Government Areas, covering 332 Registration Areas and 3,763 Polling Units.

Fifteen political parties are contesting, with notable candidates including incumbent governor Ademola Adeleke of the Accord party, Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress (APC), and Najeem Salaam of the African Democratic Congress (ADC). The Nigeria Police Force has deployed 15,000 personnel to ensure security, with a restriction on vehicular movement from midnight until 6:00 p.m. on election day, emphasizing professionalism and impartiality among security personnel.
