Kano State Declares 32 LGAs Open Defecation Free

Over the weekend, Kano State achieved a significant milestone by declaring 32 out of its 44 local government areas as Open Defecation Free (ODF). This initiative is part of the Clean Nigeria Campaign and was led by Timothi Ibeawuchi, the team lead for the WASH System Health Program at Self Help Africa.

The Kano State government, under the leadership of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, has committed to improving sanitation and hygiene services. Abdulrazaq Haruna, the Permanent Secretary of the Kano State Ministry of Water Resources, emphasized the government's dedication to providing essential social services, particularly in water and sanitation.

The outcomes of a four-day stakeholder review meeting were presented, focusing on developing a sustainable roadmap for basic sanitation access and validating WASH policies. Rabi Yusuf Gezawa commended the efforts of the Kano State government and Self Help Africa for their contributions to improving sanitation in the region.
