Four Arrested in Mob Killing of Driver in Lagos

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested four suspects—Khalid Rafiq (20), Gafar Rahim (21), Ibrahim Azeez (33), and Samos Momoh (21)—in connection with the mob killing of driver Basit Kolade on Freeman Street, Lagos Island. The incident occurred when Kolade, traveling with his spouse in a black Lexus Jeep (registration number KSF 115 JZ), was involved in a traffic altercation with a motorcycle rider.

Following an argument, Kolade allegedly reversed and struck the motorcycle, leading to a confrontation that attracted a crowd. The crowd attacked Kolade with dangerous weapons, resulting in his death at Lagos Island General Hospital.

The motorcycle rider survived and is receiving medical treatment. The police are treating the case as homicide and have transferred it to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation.

CP Tijani Fatai has directed that all involved be identified and prosecuted, emphasizing that mob action is unacceptable.
