African Nations Endorse Charter to Protect Family Values

Forty African countries have endorsed a proposed charter focused on family, sovereignty, and values, aimed at strengthening families and protecting children from foreign ideologies deemed inconsistent with African cultural values. This announcement was made by Segun Adebayo, Executive Director of the Center for African Policy and Advisory, during a global town hall meeting organized by LoveWorld Ministry in Lagos.

The charter is set to be submitted to the African Union (AU) by February next year. It seeks to establish a framework for African nations to assert control over policies affecting family life, children, and education, explicitly rejecting the concept of sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR).

Adebayo criticized comprehensive sexuality education, advocating for parental control over sexuality-related education. Sharon Slater, President of Family Watch, and Barrister Sonnie Ekwowusi, Legal Adviser to CAPRAI, echoed the need for parental involvement in educational content, particularly regarding sexuality and reproductive health.
