Six Dead, Nine Injured in Kogi Auto Crash Incident
On Thursday night, a fatal auto crash in the Apata area of Kogi State resulted in the deaths of six individuals and injuries to nine others. The incident involved a Toyota Hiace bus with registration number XW 142 ENU, which collided head-on with a trailer bearing registration number KAB 575 XA.
Tenimu Yusuf Etuku, the Kogi State sector command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), confirmed the accident on Saturday, attributing it to excessive speed. A total of 17 people were involved in the crash, comprising 14 males and three females.
Among the injured, nine victims included eight males and one female, while six individuals, consisting of five males and one female, lost their lives. Two occupants of the bus were rescued unharmed.
The injured victims were taken to Fisayo Hospital in Obajana for medical attention, and the deceased were deposited at the Ankuri mortuary in Lokoja. Items recovered from the scene included 20,800 Naira in cash, two bags, two Airtel mobile phones, and three additional bags.
Etuku advised motorists to avoid excessive speed on highways to reduce road crashes and prevent loss of lives and property.
