Bala Mohammed Finalizes APC Defection with Power Deal

Bala Mohammed, the Governor of Bauchi State, has finalized plans to defect from the People's Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC). This decision follows several meetings with APC leaders, including Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The negotiations have resulted in a 60/40 power-sharing formula within the party's structure in Bauchi State, which includes arrangements for a Senate ticket for Mohammed upon the expiration of his tenure. However, there are still unresolved issues regarding his request for the 2027 governorship election.

President Tinubu has emphasized that control of the party structure in the state should remain with the party leadership rather than individuals. Despite these unresolved issues, Mohammed is expected to formally join the APC in a ceremony that will be attended by key party leaders.

This move comes as the APC's number of governors nationwide has reportedly increased to 32, leaving the PDP with fewer governors amid ongoing reconciliation efforts within the party.
