Kano Government Bans Land Sales in Public Institutions

The Kano State government has implemented a ban on the sale and allocation of land within public institutions, as announced by the Commissioner for Lands and Physical Planning, Alhaji Abduljabbar Muhammad Umar. This directive was issued during an inspection visit to the Women Teachers College (WTC) Girls’ Secondary School, where it was revealed that over 100 plots had been illegally carved out for hostel construction without government approval.

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has mandated that no land within government institutions, including schools and hospitals, should be sold or allocated. The commissioner warned that any individuals engaging in such transactions would face legal action.

Dr Dalhatu Aliyu Sani, the chairman of the committee established to remove illegal structures and Managing Director of the Kano Geographic Information System (KINGIS), stated that this action reflects the government's commitment to protecting public assets and ensuring compliance with the law. Hajiya Uwani Ahmad Balarabe, the principal of the WTC Girls’ Secondary School, expressed appreciation for the commissioner’s visit, which she said reinforced the school’s determination to protect its property.
