61 Inmates Graduate After Memorizing the Holy Qur'an
Sixty-one inmates, including 55 males and six females, graduated from a program at the Kano Custodial Centre where they memorized the Holy Qur'an. This achievement was acknowledged by Musbahu Lawan, spokesman for the Kano State Command of the Nigerian Correctional Service.
The program was designed for inmates with little to no prior knowledge of Qur'anic recitation and emphasized discipline and commitment. The initiative reflects the Nigerian Correctional Service's commitment to reform and rehabilitate inmates in line with the provisions of the Nigerian Correctional Service Act of 2019.
Graduates received welfare packages, including new clothing, mattresses, blankets, and financial support to encourage their continued personal development. Ahm Yusuf Lakpen praised the leadership of the correctional facility for promoting educational and vocational programs.
Professor Aliyu Harun commended the efforts to transform inmates' lives, while Hajiya Azumi Namadi Bebeji reaffirmed the state government's commitment to improving inmate welfare. The graduation ceremony featured presentations of certificates by Alhaji Ibrahim Ado Bayero.
