Chinese Woman Arrested with 31kg Cannabis in Lagos

On May 17, 2026, Kiong Naturalis, a 63-year-old Chinese woman, was arrested by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) at Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos. She was intercepted upon arrival from Thailand via Dubai on an Emirates Airlines flight, carrying 31 kilograms of 'Canadian Loud,' a synthetic strain of cannabis.

During the interview, she stated that she worked as a carer in Malaysia and that her daughter sponsored her trip to Malaysia and Thailand, where she spent two weeks before traveling to Nigeria. The NDLEA also reported the interception of a significant drug shipment at the airport, including 1,825,710 tablets of tapentadol worth approximately N2,190,852,000.

The agency continues its nationwide efforts against drug abuse and trafficking, with various operations leading to multiple arrests and seizures across different states.
