65 of 69 Nigerian Ambassadors Approved by Host Countries

The Federal Government of Nigeria announced that 65 out of 69 ambassadors-designate appointed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu have received approval from their respective host countries, marking a 97 percent success rate in the diplomatic postings. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, through spokesperson Kimiebi Ebienfa, stated that the process of obtaining agrément, the formal consent required for an ambassador to be accepted, is progressing smoothly.

The ministry clarified that only two countries have yet to convey their formal acceptance. One ambassador-designate to Togo declined the appointment prior to the agrément request, and another designated for Algeria passed away in April 2026, with a replacement process underway.

The ministry expressed confidence that the outstanding approvals from the two remaining countries would be granted soon and noted that most ambassadors have already arrived in their host countries and presented their Letters of Credence, allowing them to commence their duties.
