Nigerian Grandfather Graduates with First-Class Degree

Chris Osagbaekhoe, a 68-year-old Nigerian-born grandfather of 12, graduated with first-class honours in Social Work from Goldsmiths, University of London, on September 2, 2026. He returned to university at the age of 64, motivated by a desire to support vulnerable individuals and advocate for those whose voices are often unheard.

Osagbaekhoe previously studied Psychology and Counselling from 2013 to 2015 before pursuing Social Work as a mature student in 2022. He transferred to Goldsmiths in 2024 due to challenges during his studies and lives with a disability that affects his mobility.

The university provided necessary adjustments to support him, including suitable parking arrangements. Despite these obstacles, he completed his degree with first-class honours.

Following graduation, Osagbaekhoe expressed gratitude for the resilience and support he received and is now seeking his first job as a qualified social worker. He also aims to establish a community project to assist young people and deter them from crime.
