705 Nigerian Refugees Return Home to Banki from Cameroon in Ongoing Repatriation Program

In a significant development, 705 Nigerian refugees returned to Banki from Cameroon as part of a voluntary repatriation and resettlement program. The refugees, comprising 85 households displaced for years due to insurgency, were bid farewell in Maroua, Cameroon, by Governor Far North Region Midjiyawa Bakari.

Upon their arrival in Banki, they were received by the commandant of the 152 Task Force Battalion, Lieutenant Colonel Michael Ndubusi, and the District Head of Banki, Alhaji Moham Shehu Umar. The refugees will be accommodated in newly constructed houses supported by the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons and the Borno State Government led by Governor Babagana Umara Zulum.

The Chairman of the Repatriation Committee, Lawan Abba Wakil, expressed gratitude to the Federal Commissioner of the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons, Tijjani Aliyu Aham, for the support provided. Each household head will receive N100,000, while wives will receive N20,000, along with other essential items to facilitate their resettlement.
