Borno State to Repatriate 3,000 Nigerian Refugees from Cameroon After 11 Years

The Borno State Government, led by Governor Zulum, has finalized arrangements to voluntarily repatriate over 3,000 Nigerian refugees from Cameroon back to their ancestral homes after 11 years of displacement. The refugees, predominantly from communities in central and southern Borno, fled to Cameroon during the peak of insurgency, which devastated villages and disrupted socio-economic life in the region.

During a visit to the refugee camps in December 2025, Governor Zulum assured the refugees of a safe and dignified return. The refugees will be provided with shelter, healthcare, education, essential services, farmland for agriculture, and support for agricultural activities to reduce aid dependency and improve security.

This repatriation effort is part of the ongoing state-led reconstruction and aims to allow the refugees to sustain their families with dignity. The refugees have expressed readiness to return home voluntarily.
