73-Year-Old Adamawa Pilgrim Dies in Saudi Arabia

Aishatu Muhammadu, a 73-year-old pilgrim from Gombi Local Government Area in Adamawa State, passed away in Saudi Arabia on May 10, 2026, due to a cardiac arrest. The incident occurred while she was en route to Jeddah during the Hajj pilgrimage.

Fatima Usara, spokesperson for the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON), announced the development in a statement released on Sunday. Ambassador Ismail Abba Yusuf, representing the federal government, expressed deep condolences to the family of the deceased, who is survived by children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, including Abdullahi Bello, a division officer with the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps.

Yusuf assured the family of government support to ensure the safe return of Aishatu Muhammadu's remains, which will include a death certificate from the Adamawa State Pilgrim Welfare Commission. He also prayed for the deceased's soul to attain Aljannatul Firdau and for the family to have the fortitude to bear the loss.
