75 Players Compete for 2026 WTT Lagos Contender Spots

Seventy-five unseeded players commenced their battle for qualification spots in the main draw of the 2026 WTT Lagos Contender today at Teslim Balogun Stadium. The qualification series features 43 players competing for men's singles and 32 for women's singles, with the series concluding tomorrow to determine which players will join the 48 already in the main draw.

Notable Nigerian players in the main draw include Omotayo Olajide, who entered via wildcard, alongside Matthew Kuti, Abdulahi Abdulfatai, and Taiwo Mati in men's singles, and Ajok Ojomu, Fatimo Bello, Favour Ojo, and Abosed Odusanya in women's singles. Tayo Adesoji, President of the Nigeria Table Tennis Federation (NTTF), described the event as unique, attracting 30 top global players.

The tournament aims to strengthen Nigeria's position as a global table tennis destination, with support from the Lagos State government and corporate sponsors. Kweku Tandoh, the tournament director, noted the event's evolution since the Lagos State Table Tennis Classic in 2013.
