9 Soldiers Killed, Several Missing in ISWAP Ambush Near Niger Border

In a tragic incident, nine soldiers were killed and several others went missing in an ambush by ISWAP (Islamic State West Africa Province) terrorists outside the town of Damask near the Niger border. The soldiers, part of a column of 30 troops on foot patrol, were attacked with explosives and gunfire.

Eight soldiers managed to return to base, while the rest, including a major, remained missing. The ISWAP terrorists reportedly detonated explosive devices to ambush the troops, causing confusion and increasing casualties.

Ya Mulam Kadai, a spokesman for the government-funded anti-jihadist militia assisting the military in Damask, provided the casualty toll. Military search teams were deployed to the scene to recover the bodies of the slain soldiers and search for the missing ones.

The incident highlights the ongoing security challenges posed by terrorist groups in the region.
