Sowore Claims 90% of Nigerian Politicians Would Lose in Transparent Elections

Human rights activist Sowore has stated that 90% of Nigerian politicians would not secure victory in transparent elections due to alleged manipulation by those in power, including the President. Sowore made these remarks during a submission on a morning show on Channel Television.

He criticized the controversial amendment to the Electoral Act, especially the provisions related to electronic transmission of election results. Despite public pressure, the Senate allowed electronic transmission but retained provisions for manual collation in areas where internet connectivity fails.

Sowore expressed concerns that lawmakers may manipulate the manual clause to avoid losing elections if transparency is ensured. He argued that poor network coverage is not a valid excuse for not adopting transparent election practices.

Sowore, a former presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), cited India's successful adoption of electronic voting for its large population as an example. He called for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to modernize Nigeria's electoral system, which he deemed outdated.
