Jigawa State Begins Teacher Recruitment for J-Tsangaya

The Jigawa State Government has initiated Computer-Based Tests (CBT) for the recruitment of 500 teachers for its J-Tsangaya programme, with over 9,000 graduates and NCE holders vying for the positions. Abubakar Maje, the Executive Secretary of the Jigawa State Tsangaya Education Board, announced that 3,150 applicants were shortlisted for the CBT.

This recruitment effort aims to enhance the Almajiri Free Zone Programme, which seeks to enroll over 5,000 Almajirai in a structured education system that combines Qur’anic studies with basic Western education and vocational training. Maje stated that the new model aims to reduce street begging among children.

The programme includes the establishment of three mega Tsangaya schools in Dutse, Kafin Hausa, and Ringim, each expected to admit about 1,500 children. The teachers recruited will teach both conventional subjects and Qur’anic education.

Candidates expressed appreciation for the CBT process but urged the government to increase the number of positions available to 1,000 due to the high number of applicants.
