Former NYSC Director Tsiga Shares Captivity Experience

General Brigadier General Maharazu Tsiga (rtd), former director of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), shared his traumatic experience of being held captive by bandits for 56 days. This occurred after the abduction of Major General Rabe Abubakar (rtd) and his wife on May 30, 2026, in Katsina State.

Tsiga detailed a phone call with the bandit leader, who expressed curiosity about purchasing ammunition. Tsiga clarified that he was a retired officer and had no involvement in banditry.

He emphasized the systemic issues of insecurity in Nigeria, suggesting that armed groups operate through extensive networks beyond isolated areas. Tsiga's account raises concerns about the sophistication of criminal groups and their access to weapons, despite military operations aimed at curbing such activities.

He noted that the situation reflects a broader challenge within Nigeria's security framework, where criminal behavior persists despite efforts to maintain law and order.
