Tribute to Alhaji Abubakar Alhaji: A Legacy of Leadership

Ida, Ph.D, CON, Wazirin Katsina, honors the memory of Alhaji Abubakar Alhaji, CON, the Sardauna of Sokoto, recognizing him as an exceptional civil servant and leader. Alhaji served as Minister of Budget and Planning, Minister of Finance, and High Commissioner to the United Kingdom.

He was described as a “super civil servant” and a “financial colossus.” Ida recounts his personal experiences working under Alhaji, particularly during his tenure as Federal Minister of Finance, where he chaired the Federation Accounts Allocation Committee. Alhaji's leadership was pivotal during the relocation of Nigeria's Federal Capital from Lagos to Abuja in April 1992, a task he managed with remarkable skill and composure.

Alhaji expressed a desire to retire from public service, which led to his appointment as High Commissioner to the UK. His legacy is marked by humility and kindness, setting a standard for leadership in Nigeria.
