INEC to Display Candidates' Credentials for 2027 Elections

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that it will commence the public display of candidates’ personal particulars for the 2027 presidential, senatorial, and House of Representatives elections on Saturday, August 1, 2026. This initiative aligns with Section 29 of the Electoral Act 2022, enabling the public to scrutinize the credentials and documents submitted by candidates seeking elective positions.

The announcement was made by Mrs. Esther Emeh, the Head of Voter Education and Publicity, on Friday.

The display will occur at INEC's Lagos State office in Sabo-Yaba and at the respective Local Government Area offices within the affected constituencies. The documents, contained in Form EC9, include candidates’ credentials, personal information, and affidavits submitted by political parties.

INEC encourages political parties, candidates, stakeholders, and the public to inspect these documents during the display period. Individuals with objections regarding any candidate’s information can seek legal redress as per the Electoral Act.

This public display is a statutory requirement aimed at ensuring transparency and accountability in the electoral process.
