Anambra Doctor Dr. Edwin Emegakor Regains Freedom

Dr. Edwin Emegakor, a medical doctor at Multi Specialist Hospital Nkpor in Anambra State, was abducted on May 7 by unidentified gunmen allegedly dressed in security uniforms.

During the abduction, medical personnel were threatened at gunpoint, and their phones were confiscated. Following the incident, the Nigeria Medical Association (NMA) Anambra State branch, led by Chairman Dr.

Princeton Okam, announced plans to embark on an indefinite strike if Emegakor was not released within 48 hours. An emergency general meeting was held on Saturday to discuss the situation.

On Sunday, Dr. Okam confirmed that Emegakor had regained his freedom, although he did not disclose whether a ransom was paid.

Emegakor was reported to be in good health and reunited with his family. The NMA expressed gratitude for his release and called on the Anambra State government to ensure the protection of lives and property in the state.
