Osun LG Vice Chairman Debo Farounbi Abducted for 22 Days

Mr. Debo Farounbi, the vice chairman of Ifedayo Local Government Area in Osun State, was abducted by gunmen on June 9 at approximately 10 PM along the Osun-Kwara border.

He has been in captivity for 22 days as negotiations for his release continue. Initially, the abductors demanded a ransom of 200 million Naira, which the family has struggled to meet, leading to a reduction in the demand to 50 million Naira.

The family has been in contact with the abductors, who have sent photographs of Farounbi to exert pressure. Despite the ongoing negotiations, there has been no active search and rescue effort reported by security agencies.

Abiodun Ojelabi, spokesperson for the Osun State Police Command, stated that the command is working towards the safe rescue of the victim and confirmed that two suspects have been arrested in connection with the abduction and are currently remanded in custody.
