Oyo Headmaster Mathew Owoad Regains Freedom After Kidnapping

Mathew Owoad, a 60-year-old farmer and headmaster, was reported abducted on July 12, 2026, along Igbojay Budo Aar Bush Road in Itesiwaju Local Government Area, Oyo State. The Oyo State Police Command's spokesperson, Olayinka Ayanlade, announced that Owoad regained his freedom on July 13, 2026, following an immediate and coordinated joint security operation launched after the incident.

The operation involved sustained investigative efforts and pressure on the kidnappers, which ultimately led to Owoad's release. Upon his return, he was taken to a medical facility for evaluation and necessary treatment.

Following his medical attention, a formal debriefing will occur as part of ongoing investigations aimed at identifying, apprehending, and prosecuting those responsible for the kidnapping. Olugbenga Abimbola, the Commissioner of Police, praised the efforts of security agencies and local community members who cooperated during the rescue operation.
