Gunmen Kidnap Oyo Headmaster, Demand N30 Million Ransom

On July 11, 2026, Owoad Matthew Kolawal, a 60-year-old headmaster of Nomad Basic School in Igbojay, Itesiwaju Local Government Area, Oyo State, was abducted by unknown gunmen between 5 PM and 6 PM. His son, Owoad Abiola, reported that the kidnappers contacted the family using the headmaster's mobile phone, demanding a ransom of N30 million for his release.

Following the incident, a search team discovered the headmaster's motorcycle abandoned in a bush. The family has reached out to the Nigeria Police Force, DSS, and NSCDC for assistance in ensuring the immediate and unconditional release of Owoad Matthew Kolawal.

This kidnapping comes just two months after a similar incident in Orir community, where 40 school children and a teacher were abducted. The increasing terrorist activities in the region have raised security concerns in southwestern Nigeria.
