FG Issues One-Month Ultimatum for NHIA Office Completion

The Federal Government has issued a one-month ultimatum to a contractor to complete the abandoned National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) office in Abeokuta, Ogun State. This announcement was made by Dr.

Iziak Adekunle Salako, the Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, during an unscheduled spot assessment visit on Thursday. Dr.

Salako evaluated the current state of the facility and expressed concern about the prolonged abandonment, highlighting its negative implications for health insurance service delivery in the state. He emphasized the Federal Government's commitment to revitalizing critical health infrastructure in line with ongoing reforms in the health sector.

The minister noted that the facility had not been formally handed over to the contractor for management. He instructed the contractor to fix the necessary facilities within the stipulated time frame, ensuring that NHIA staff can fully operate.

Dr. Salako reassured stakeholders that necessary steps would be taken to address the situation, emphasizing the importance of public health assets, especially at a time when efforts are being intensified to expand access to affordable healthcare for Nigerians.
