Abia State Launches Digital System for Student Monitoring

The Abia State Government, under the leadership of Governor Alex Otti, has introduced the Educational Management Information System (EMIS) to enhance the monitoring of students' learning progress. Announced during a press briefing following a State Executive Council meeting in Umuahia, Mr.

Ubochi emphasized that the initiative will allow the government to track learners' academic progress through a centralized digital platform. This system will store educational data for basic and secondary levels in a single database, supporting evidence-based policy decisions for both public and private schools across 17 local government areas.

The platform will issue secure login credentials and unique identification numbers to every pupil in Abia State. Additionally, Mr.

Kanu revealed that 36,415 applications were received for the second phase of a teacher recruitment exercise, with 24,023 candidates shortlisted for a computer-based test, with the date to be announced later. The state also plans to resume a mass literacy program for adults in the 2025/2026 academic session.
