Abia State Offers N30,000 Incentive for Rural Teachers

The Abia State Government is actively engaging traditional rulers, Presidents-General, and community leaders to secure accommodation for 4,075 newly recruited teachers assigned to rural and hard-to-reach areas. Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Elder Goodluck Ubochi, announced this initiative during a press briefing in Umuahia, where he also revealed a N30,000 incentive for teachers who accept these postings.
This second recruitment batch follows the deployment of 5,394 teachers, addressing ongoing vacancies in remote schools. Ubochi emphasized that teachers signed a commitment acknowledging their deployment to areas where their services are needed, despite some complaints about postings to hinterlands.
He urged community leaders to assist by providing accommodation, including unoccupied buildings. Additionally, he mentioned the establishment of a help desk for teachers to report their experiences.
Ubochi also confirmed that feedback from headteachers and principals is expected soon, and teachers must complete their onboarding to receive salaries by the end of October.
