Abia State Seals Hotels for Environmental Violations

The Abia State Environment Protection Agency (ASEPA) has sealed eight facilities in Umuahia, the state capital, due to their failure to comply with environmental impact assessments and improper waste management practices. This action was taken following a court order and affects companies such as Nova Heaven Apart Hotel, Amakama Rich Vision Water, Waveron, Ga Delatino Event Centre, and Hilltop Hotel, among others.

Mr. Ogbonnaya Okereke, the General Manager of ASEPA, stated that the owners of these properties operated without the necessary environmental evaluations and permits.

Mr. Okpara Macaulei, head of monitoring and revenue at ASEPA, expressed concern over the owners' disregard for environmental regulations.

The sealed facilities were warned that non-compliance could lead to penalties, including a fine of N2.5 million, which will be paid into the Abia State Judiciary account.
