Abia Seals Eight Facilities for Environmental Violations

The Abia State Environmental Protection Agency (ASEPA) has sealed eight facilities in Umuahia due to allegations of non-compliance with environmental impact assessment regulations. The facilities affected include Pro P Nova Heaven Apart Hotel, Amakama Rich Vision Water, Confid Hotel, Waveron Ga Bend Road, Delatino Event Centre, and Hilltop Hotel Bar.

Mr. Ogbonnia Okereke, the General Manager of ASEPA, stated that the enforcement action follows a court order.

He emphasized the importance of obtaining the required environmental impact assessment and evaluation reports before commencing operations. Improper waste disposal practices were also condemned.

ASEPA's head of monitoring revenue, Mr. Okpara Macaulei, reiterated the need for strict compliance with environmental regulations.

Prince Okei Kanu, the state commissioner, confirmed that ASEPA will continue to seal facilities found violating environmental standards until they comply with the regulations. The agency is also set to implement waste management initiatives to promote cleanliness and improve environmental sanitation across the state.
