NESREA Seals 30 Construction Sites in FCT for Violations

The National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency (NESREA) has taken enforcement action by sealing 30 construction sites in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) due to violations of the National Environmental (Construction Sector) Regulations of 2011. The Director General of NESREA, Prof.

Innoc Barikor, announced this decision on Wednesday while addressing journalists in Abuja. He highlighted that the construction sector is crucial for national development and must adhere to regulations to avoid issues such as improper waste management, uncontrolled dust emissions, and poor handling of chemical materials.

Mr. Elijah Udofia, representing the Director of Environmental Quality Control, expressed dissatisfaction with the operators' poor attitude towards compliance, indicating a serious breach of compliance obligations that pose risks to the environment and public health.

Prof. Barikor warned that environmental compliance is not optional and must be prioritized in construction activities.
