Abia State Seeks New Vice Chancellor for ABSU by 2026

The Abia State Government is actively seeking a substantive Vice Chancellor for Abia State University, Uturu, who is expected to assume office on November 1, 2026. Governor Alex Otti made this announcement during his monthly media chat titled “Governor Alex Otti Speaks to Abians” in Umuahia.

He indicated that the recruitment process has already begun, as the position has been advertised, and the tenure of the acting Vice Chancellor will conclude in October. Otti emphasized that the new Vice Chancellor would officially take over from November 1.

In addition to this announcement, the governor discussed other administrative matters, including the payment of pensions to the next of kin of deceased pensioners and the introduction of a contributory pension scheme for over 36,000 state workers. He also mentioned the reconstitution of the Secondary Education Management Board and the engagement of 4,074 new teachers to address educational gaps in the state.
