MOUAU Vice Chancellor Denies Involvement in Recruitment Flaws

The Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike, has distanced its new Vice Chancellor, Prof. Ursula Akanwa, from a flawed recruitment exercise that aimed to hire 426 staff members.

Mr. Anyaso, the Vice Chancellor, stated that the recruitment process was transparent and involved capturing successful applicants on the payroll.

The recruitment was approved by the Federal Government and the university's governing council, with strict adherence to employment conduct. It was noted that 618 appointment letters were issued, with 553 successfully uploaded to the Government Integrated Financial Management Information System (GIFMIS).

The Vice Chancellor does not have access to the GIFMIS platform, and the university denied allegations of forcing disengaged workers to retrieve their identification cards. The university clarified that no sack letters were issued, and the claims regarding the retrieval of ID cards were labeled as misinformation.
