Otti Apologizes to ABSU Over Strike Due to Delays

On Thursday, during a Public Lecture at the International Conference Centre in Umuahia, Abia State Governor Alex Otti apologized to Abia State University (ABSU) for the recent strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU). Otti explained that the strike occurred despite his approval of the union's demands, attributing the failure to implement these decisions to bureaucratic delays.

He stated that the requests from ASUU were legitimate and had been carefully considered, with the financial implications already included in the memo he received. Otti expressed concern that bureaucratic processes could hinder government decisions even after necessary approvals were granted.

He acknowledged, “I want to, on this podium, apologise to Abia State University as well. That strike was avoidable.

The reality is that the work stops here. So, we failed.

I failed. I failed them.” He called for greater efficiency and accountability among government officials responsible for implementing approved policies, stressing that it is unacceptable for workers' welfare issues to remain unresolved.
