Ikonne Challenges Abaribe for Abia South Senate Seat

Paul Ikonne, a former executive secretary of the National Agricultural Land Development Authority (NALDA), has officially picked up the nomination form from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to contest for the Abia South Senate seat in the upcoming 2027 general elections. He is challenging the incumbent senator, Enyinnaya Abaribe, who has served in the National Assembly for nearly two decades without delivering significant development for the district.

Ikonne has issued a quit notice to Abaribe, accusing him of being disconnected from grassroots realities and failing to attract meaningful federal presence to the zone. He argues that the district has suffered from years of poor performance and requires new leadership focused on service and development.

Ikonne expressed confidence in the current 11th Senate, describing it as a time for consolidating reforms initiated by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. His candidacy is set to intensify the political contest in Abia South as the 2027 elections approach.
