Seven Students Rescued After Kidnapping in Ogun State

Seven students from Gateway ICT Polytechnic in Saapade, Ogun State, were rescued after being abducted from a private hostel in Ipara-Remo on July 29. The rescue operation, which lasted eight days, was announced by Governor Dapo Abiodun in Abeokuta.

He stated that the successful operation was a result of a coordinated effort involving ground troops and aerial surveillance, initiated immediately after the abduction was reported. Governor Abiodun requested additional aerial support from Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Disu on August 3, leading to the deployment of a police helicopter that aided in locating the kidnappers' hideout.

The Governor emphasized the importance of intelligence sharing and inter-agency collaboration in combating security threats. Commissioner of Police Bode Ojajuni confirmed that one student sustained a gunshot wound but was stabilized after medical treatment.

He also noted that no ransom was paid for the students' release, and two suspected kidnappers were arrested during the operation.
