Ogun Polytechnic Students Demand Better Security Measures

Students at Gateway ICT Polytechnic in Saapade, Ogun State, are advocating for enhanced security measures following the abduction of five of their peers by gunmen on Wednesday night at a private hostel in Ipara Remo. The students voiced their concerns on Friday, highlighting the exploitation of poor security in their communities by criminals.

Many students have been staying away from campus due to fears for their safety, especially after the management suspended ongoing second semester examinations. A National Diploma II student, Samuel, emphasized the porous security situation, recalling previous abductions, including that of a popular TikToker, Aduni Vibes.

He and other students urged Governor Dapo Abiodun to implement regular police patrols and military presence to deter criminal activities. Another student, Ajibade Olanrewaju, noted the shock and fear among students, stating that such incidents were previously thought to occur only in distant areas.
