GAT Empowers Women Leaders in Kaduna to Combat GBV

The Gender Awareness Trust (GAT) conducted a one-day Training of Trainers (ToT) in Kaduna State, focusing on strategies to prevent and respond to gender-based violence (GBV). The training, held on Thursday, involved 12 selected Christian women and cultural leaders from Zangon Kataf and Kaduna South Local Government Areas.
This initiative is part of GAT's second phase of intervention under the project "Empowering Christian Women and Leaders of Culture for Prevention and Response to Gender-Based Violence in Nigeria," funded by the Women Aid Collective (WACOL). GAT Executive Director, Dr. Lydia Umar, emphasized the critical influence of these women in shaping community attitudes and practices regarding GBV.
Participants were encouraged to become advocates and trainers, promoting values of dignity, justice, equality, and respect. Umar highlighted the need for prevention and community engagement, urging participants to reject harmful cultural and religious interpretations that contribute to GBV.
