ADC Blames Coalition Rift for Abuja Council Election Defeat

The African Democratic Congress (ADC), under the leadership of Hon. Nafiu Bala Gomb, has expressed disappointment over its defeat in the 2026 Abuja area council elections, attributing this loss to internal rifts within its coalition.

Gomb described the situation as a breach of due process by certain coalition partners and addressed journalists in Abuja, lamenting that actors within the alliance failed to adhere to the party's constitutional guidelines, which undermined the party's chances in the polls. He distanced the ADC from a faction that held an internal press conference, asserting that it did not represent the party's interests.

Gomb criticized the National Assembly for exceeding its authority regarding the Electoral Act and accused coalition partners of misguiding their actions rather than focusing on formal relationships. He urged coalition members to prioritize the party's grassroots base and called for a commitment to rebuilding the ADC to ensure it remains a vehicle for true change in Nigeria.
