Abuja Electricity Distribution Company Justifies Sacking 800 Workers in Restructuring Move

Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) has defended its decision to terminate the employment of 800 workers in a bid to restructure operations for improved service delivery and operational efficiency. The company cited the need for agile and customer-centric transformation, emphasizing the promotion of high-performing staff and the implementation of robust employee development plans.

The mass layoff began following internal restructuring efforts in multiple states. A union representing electricity employees negotiated to reduce the number of affected workers from 1,800 to 800.

Adeniyi Adejola, AEDC's Chief Human Resource Officer, signed the disengagement letters issued to the affected staff.
